This professional development helps educators understand teaching that begins with understanding the realities, ideologies, and needs of youth of color. The session will be aimed at shifting perceptions of cultural deficits into potential academic strengths of students. Humanizing education will draw on culturally relevant, critical pedagogical, and critical literacies to allow young people to cultivate a deeper knowledge of and compassion for self and develop a deeper sense of control over their collective lives. This workshop offers participants opportunities to critically analyze their practices to more effectively serve the holistic needs of students of underserved cultural groups in the United States.
